Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

TORONTO, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Joao Plata scored in the 77th minute Saturday, providing the only tally in Toronto FC's 1-0 decision over Real Salt Lake.
Matt Stinson began the winning play by sending a long cross deep into the Real Salt Lake box. There it was controlled by Plata, who beat a defender and launched a low shot that trickled past RSL netminder Nick Rimando.
Back-up Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic preserved the lead, making several crucial saves on Salt Lake down the stretch for the Reds (4-11-11), who have earned points in three straight contests.
RSL (10-6-6) fell to 0-7 all-time at Toronto.
