PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard blasted a two-run homer and drove in two more runs Saturday, backing Roy Oswalt in the Philadelphia Phillies' 11-3 victory over Washington.
Howard's first-inning homer gave Philadelphia a brief lead, but after the Nationals tied it in the next half-inning he struck again, triggering a five-run uprising in the third with an RBI single.
Oswalt (5-7) pitched well over seven innings to rack up his first victory since June 12. The right-hander yielded three runs on six hits while striking out five in his second start since returning from a long stay on the disabled list with a back injury.
The Phillies evened their three-game set with the Nationals and improved to 13-2 in their last 15 games.
Washington's John Lannan (8-8) was rocked for seven runs (only one earned) on four hits and five walks before being lifted after just three innings.
