LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Matt Kemp singled home Casey Blake with none out in the 10th inning Friday to finally produce a run and give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 win over Houston.
The teams combined for only eight hits, two of them coming as the Dodgers were putting together their run in the 10th.
Los Angeles put the potential winning run on third with nobody out in the ninth but could not score against Fernando Rodriguez.
The Dodgers had better luck one inning later with David Carpenter (0-2) on the mound. Blake began the inning with a double and Andre Ethier was intentionally walked. Kemp then delivered a single to right to bring home Blake and end a four-game Los Angeles losing streak.
Houston has lost four in a row to reach 81 setbacks for the season -- nine more than any other team in the majors.
Josh Lindblom (1-0), in the 13th relief appearance of his rookie season, picked up his first major league win by working the top of the 10th.
