SEATTLE, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Josh Reddick's two-run homer in the sixth inning put Boston in front Friday and the Red Sox went on to defeat Seattle 6-4.
Boston overcame an early 2-0 deficit and then fell behind again by two runs through four innings.
Jed Lowrie brought the Red Sox within one with a solo homer in the sixth and Reddick gave them the lead for good in the sixth with his sixth homer of the year off starter Blake Beavan (3-3).
David Ortiz, who homered in the second, provided an insurance run for Boston in the seventh with an RBI single.
The comeback made a winner out of John Lackey (11-8), who gave up four runs on 10 hits in six innings. Jonathan Papelbon allowed a two-out single in the ninth before earning his 27th save.
Boston increased its lead over second-place New York to two games in the American League East after the Yankees fell to Tampa Bay earlier in the evening.
