MLB: Arizona 4, New York Mets 3

PHOENIX, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Justin Upton's homer helped stake Arizona to an early lead Friday and the Diamondbacks eventually fought off the New York Mets 4-3.

Arizona scored all its runs in the first two innings and then relied on Ian Kennedy and two relievers to win their fourth straight.

Kennedy (15-3) captured his seventh straight start and had an RBI as well, allowing a run on six hits in seven innings. David Hernandez gave up a run while working the eighth for the Diamondbacks and J.J. Putz, despite giving up a double and a sacrifice fly in the ninth, collected his 28th save.

Upton hit his 24th home run in the first inning and Arizona scored three times in the second when Cody Ransom produced a two-run double and scored on a double by Kennedy.

Dillon Gee (10-4) was hit with the loss, giving up all the Arizona runs over five innings. The Mets have dropped three in a row.
