DETROIT, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Matthew Stafford threw two first-period touchdown passes Friday that lifted the Detroit Lions to 34-3 win over Cincinnati in their exhibition opener.
Stafford, returning from a shoulder injury that limited his 2010 season to three games, completed 6-of-7 passes for 71 yards while playing two series.
He threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Johnson to open the scoring and then hit Nate Burleson with a 7-yarder for a 14-0 lead after one period.
The other Detroit touchdowns came on a 7-yard run by Shaun Hill in the second period and a 28-yard throw from Zac Robinson to Nate Hughes in the fourth.
Second-round draft pick Andy Dalton -- who led TCU to an unbeaten season last season and a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin -- made his debut for the Bengals and went 11-of-15 for 69 yards with an interception.
