PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Livan Hernandez limited Philadelphia to an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings Friday and had two RBI in leading Washington to a 4-2 win over the Phillies.
Hernandez (7-11) surrendered only four hits with three strikeouts and helped the Nationals defeat Philadelphia for the first time in nine tries this season. The NL Eastern Division-leading Phillies had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Hernandez singled in the first Nationals run in the second inning and their last one in the sixth. The Washington starter outdueled Cole Hamels, who has won just one of his last four starts.
Hamels (13-7) gave up three runs on six hits in five innings.
Drew Storen allowed a run in the ninth, but held on to collect his 31st save.
This was the opener of a home series that follows the best 10-game road trip in Philadelphia history, one in which the Phillies went 9-1.
