ST. LOUIS, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A two-run single by David Freese highlighted a five-run St. Louis sixth inning Friday and sent the Cardinals rolling over Colorado 6-1.
St. Louis batted around in the sixth to turn a close game into a one-sided contest.
Kyle Lohse (10-7) went 6 1/3 innings, his longest outing since July 8, to get the win. He allowed only a homer by Carlos Gonzalez and three other hits.
The teams were locked in a 1-1 battle when the Cardinals broke loose in the sixth against Aaron Cook (2-7).
Rafael Furcal and Jon Jay opened the inning with singles and a base hit by Albert Pujols drove in the first run of the inning. Matt Holliday then doubled home Jay and, after Lance Berkman was intentionally walked to load the bases, Freese singled in Pujols and Holliday.
After St. Louis had a runner thrown out at home, Lohse helped his own cause with an RBI single to right.
Colorado has lost three straight.
