Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CLEVELAND, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Carlos Santana drove in the tying run in the eighth Friday and then scored the go-ahead tally, lifting the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over Minnesota.
It was a 1-1 tie heading into the eighth, during which Minnesota took the lead and then gave it up to suffer its sixth loss in seven games.
Tsuyoshi Nishioka put the Twins in front with an RBI single in the eighth but they had a runner thrown out at home in the inning and left two men on base.
With Minnesota starter Carl Pavano still on the mound to start the bottom of the eighth, Travis Hafner produced a one-out single and then gave way to pinch-runner Michael Brantley.
Glen Perkins relieved Pavano and surrendered a double to Santana that brought home Brantley. Santana scored he winning run on a two-out double by Matt LaPorta.
Perkins (4-3) was charged with the loss.
Rafael Perez (5-2) claimed the win by recording the final out in the top of the eighth in relief of Justin Masterson. Chris Perez worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save.
