Former boxer Scott LeDoux dead at 62

COON RAPIDS, Minn., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Boxer Scott LeDoux, who fought for but never won the world heavyweight title, died Thursday of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was 62.

LeDoux compiled a 33-13-4 career record and went on to twice be elected county commissioner in his home of Anoka County. He resigned last year when he was diagnosed with his fatal illness, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.

LeDoux fought and lost to Larry Holmes in a heavyweight title bout in 1980 at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minn. His fight four years earlier with fellow Minnesota resident Duane Bobick drew a crowd of 14,130 to the Met Center -- still a Minnesota record for a boxing audience.
