NFL: Philadelphia 13, Baltimore 6

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Michael Vick threw a scoring pass on the only possession he played Thursday and the Philadelphia Eagles opened the NFL pre-season by downing Baltimore 13-6.

It was the first exhibition game completed this year and heralded the return of a sport that appeared in jeopardy as its labor dispute stretched deep into the summer.

Once a new owner-player contract was signed, however, Philadelphia became active in the trade and free-agent market and will head into the regular season as the favorites to win the NFC East.

Vick drove the Eagles 80 yards in eight plays the first time they had the ball, hitting Brent Celek with a 3-yard touchdown pass. Vick was 4-of-6 on the drive for 74 yards.

Quarterback Vince Young, picked up by the Eagles after he was released by Tennessee, was 3-of-5 for 45 yards.

Most of the Philadelphia quarterback action came from Mike Kafka, who did not play last year in his rookie season. Kafka completed 13-of-19 passes for 132 yards with an interception.

Alex Henery kicked field goals of 35 and 24 yards for the Eagles.

Billy Cundiff opened and closed the scoring with 53 and 34-yard field goals for Baltimore.

Baltimore starting quarterback Joe Flacco completed half his six passes for 60 yards. Tyrod Taylor led the Ravens from their own 38 to the Philadelphia 4-yard line in the final moments, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete.
