CINCINNATI, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Johnny Cueto pitched seven shutout innings Thursday in keying the Cincinnati Reds' 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Cincinnati got four of its six hits in the first inning, scoring twice and Cueto (8-5) allowed just three hits and walked two in seven innings before Aroldis Chapman contributed one inning of one-hit relief and Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth -- allowing a Seth Smith home run to lead off the inning -- before getting his 22nd save.
Jhoulys Chacin (9-9) went eight innings for Colorado, giving up six hits and walking three. He struck out nine.
But the Reds bunched four of the hits with two outs in the first to give Cueto the lead. Joey Votto started the rally with a double and Jay Bruce singled him in. Ramon Hernandez added a single, pushing Bruce to second, and Drew Stubbs reached on an infield single and error that got Bruce home.
Smith connected for his third home run of the series in the ninth. It was a long drive deep into the seats beyond right field for his 12th home run of the season.
