
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Andrew McCutchen slugged a two-run homer, walked three times and scored four runs Wednesday in the Pittsburgh Pirates' 9-2 rout of San Francisco.
McCutchen's blast in the third inning gave the Pirates a 4-1 lead and he came around to score all three times he drew bases on balls from Giants pitchers.
Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and Matt Diaz contributed a pair of run-scoring base hits for the Bucs, who took the rubber match of a three-game series at AT&T Park.
Jeff Karstens (9-6) earned the victory, yielding a pair of runs on eight hits over six innings while walking none and striking out nine.
San Francisco's Jonathan Sanchez (4-7) was lit up for five runs (four earned), allowing four hits in 4 1/3 frames.
Pablo Sandoval knocked a solo homer for the Giants, who came into the contest leading Arizona by one-half game atop the National League West.
