LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee tossed eight shutout innings and smacked a home run Tuesday, boosting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-1 decision over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lee (12-7), who was coming off a seven-hit shutout of San Francisco in his previous start, scattered four hits, issued a pair of walks and struck out 10 batters.
The left-hander allowed only one runner to reach third and lowered his ERA to 2.83 for the first-place Phillies, who moved 36 games over .500 (76-40) for the first time in 34 years. He was working with a 1-0 lead for much of the game when he launched a home run into the right field stands in the seventh, which turned out to be the winning run.
Ryan Madson earned his 21st save despite allowing an RBI single to Casey Blake in the ninth.
The Dodgers' Ted Lilly (7-12) was saddled with the hard-luck loss, surrendering two runs on six hits over eight frames.
