CINCINNATI, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Joey Votto hit the last of three homers given up by Kevin Millwood Wednesday to put Cincinnati in front in the sixth and the Reds fought off Colorado 3-2.
Millwood (0-1) made his first major league appearance since last September and gave up six hits with six strikeouts over seven innings.
Half of the hits he surrendered, however, were homers by Edgar Renteria, Jay Bruce and Votto. The homers from Renteria and Bruce came in the fourth to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead, but the Rockies came back to tie it on an RBI single by Dexter Fowler in the fifth and Troy Tulowitzki's sixth-inning home run.
Votto led off the bottom of the sixth and he hit a 3-2 pitch out to left.
Cincinnati starter Mike Leake (10-7) allowed two runs on 11 hits over 7 1/3 to get the win.
Francisco Cordero picked up his 21st save, getting out of trouble after Colorado put the potential tying run on third base in the ninth with just one out.
