MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- David Ortiz drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single Tuesday and the Boston Red Sox handed Minnesota its sixth straight loss, 4-3.
With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh, Dustin Pedroia walked with one out, Adrian Gonzalez doubled and Kevin Youkilis drew a walk from Matt Capps (3-6) to load the bases.
Phil Dumatrait came in to pitch and Ortiz greeted him with a nubber in front of the plate that Dumatrait tried to bare-hand but couldn't, allowing Pedroia to score the go-ahead run.
Darnell McDonald cracked a two-run homer as the Red Sox won their fourth straight and increased their lead in the American League East to 2 1/2 games over the New York Yankees, who fell to the Los Angeles Angels 6-4.
Matt Albers (4-3) was credited with the win despite allowing a game-tying RBI double by Tsuyoshi Nishioka in the bottom of the sixth. Jonathan Papelbon hurled a scoreless ninth for his 26th save.
Michael Cuddyer and Delmon Young contributed RBI for the Twins.
