
MIAMI, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Dan Uggla went 3-for-5 and equaled the longest hitting streak in Atlanta history at 31 games Wednesday in pacing the Braves to a 6-2 victory over Florida.
The Braves swept the Marlins in three games and ran their overall winning streak to four. The Marlins have lost seven in a row.
Uggla, batting cleanup as Atlanta's second baseman, singled in two runs on the first pitch from Anibal Sanchez in the opening inning. He also had a singles in the second and ninth.
Uggla tied the club record set by Rico Carty in 1970. Tommy Holmes had a 37-game hitting streak in 1945 when the franchise was located in Boston.
Eric Hinske also had a two-run double for the Braves, who began the night with a 4 1/2-game lead in the National League wild card race.
Tim Hudson (12-7) lasted 7 1/3 innings to get the win. He gave up two runs on six hits while striking out seven. Sanchez (6-6) surrendered five runs on seven hits in just 1 2/3.
