Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Charlie Morton pitched eight shutout innings Monday and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat San Francisco 5-0 to end a season-long 10-game losing streak.
Morton (9-6) allowed six hits, walked three, struck out four and ran his scoreless streak to 17 innings for the Pirates, who got two hits and two RBI from Ryan Ludwick. Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez and Brandon Wood each drove in a run, and Garrett Jones finished with four hits and two runs scored for Pittsburgh.
Nate Schierholtz had three of San Francisco's six hits.
Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong (9-2) went five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out eight.
