CINCINNATI, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Carlos Gonzalez belted a tie-breaking two-run homer in the eighth inning Monday, powering the Colorado Rockies to a 10-7 win over Cincinnati.
The Reds had tied the score 7-7 in the seventh when Brandon Phillips connected for a solo shot off Rex Brothers. But the Rockies came right back in the next-half inning to grab the lead for good.
Dexter Fowler got a one-out single against Bill Bray (2-2) and one out later Gonzalez cranked his 16th homer of the year into deep right field, handing the Rockies the win in a rain-delayed game.
Seth Smith hit a pair of two-run homers and Todd Helton went 3-for-5 with a two-run shot and an RBI single for the Rockies, who pounded out 14 in taking the first of a four-game series against the Reds.
Matt Belisle (6-4), the fifth of seven Colorado pitchers, got the win and Huston Street picked up his 29th save.
Jay Bruce blasted a three-run homer and Drew Stubbs added a two-run shot for Cincinnati.
