BALTIMORE, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Brent Morel drove in a pair of runs and preserved Chicago's lead with a diving stop Tuesday, lifting the White Sox to a 4-3 win over Baltimore.
Morel followed Carlos Quentin's solo homer in the second with an RBI single, handing Chicago a 2-0 lead, and added a bases-empty clout of his own in the fourth.
With the White Sox clinging to a 4-3 lead in the seventh and Felix Pie at third, Morel made a diving stab of a J.J. Hardy grounder and threw to first for the out, preserving Chicago's fifth straight win.
A.J. Pierzynski went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Gavin Floyd (10-10) collected the win, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Jo-Jo Reyes (5-9) absorbed the loss in his first start for the Orioles, who obtained him on waivers after his release from Toronto. He yielded four runs on five hits in four innings.
