NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Lucas Duda stroked a game-winning, two-run single in the ninth inning Monday, rallying the New York Mets to a 9-8 win over San Diego.
The Padres looked like they were on their way to victory after Jason Bartlett delivered a bases-clearing double to cap a four-run eighth, but Heath Bell (2-4) couldn't hang onto the lead.
David Wright drove in the first of three ninth-inning runs off the Padres closer and Duda's clutch hit capped the rally for New York, which won despite having two starters placed on the disabled list before the game.
Shortstop Jose Reyes was idled with a strained left hamstring and infielder Daniel Murphy joined him with a likely season-ending sprained knee ligament, but the Mets still found a way to win.
The rally made a winner of Jason Isringhausen (3-2), who tossed a scoreless top of the ninth.
Wright hit a two-run shot as part of a 2-for-5 night with three RBI.
Juan Guzman added a two-run single for Padres, who dropped the first of a four-game series.
