
MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- David Ortiz went 4-for-5, homered and drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning Monday, lifting the Boston Red Sox to an 8-6 win over Minnesota.
Ortiz blasted a two-run shot in the sixth and delivered the decisive blow with an RBI single off Twins closer Joe Nathan. He scored three times as the Red Sox notched their third straight win.
Boston starter Tim Wakefield came up short in his bid for his 200th career win, yielding five runs (three earned) on eight hits over seven frames.
Alfredo Aceves (8-1) got the win despite allowing the Twins to tie the game in eighth.
Glen Perkins (3-2) was tagged with the loss in relief of Twins starter Scott Baker, who allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings.
Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for Minnesota.
