Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DENVER, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Jayson Werth's eighth-inning single chased home the go-ahead run Sunday and the Washington Nationals held on to edge Colorado 3-2.
Werth's hit scored Danny Espinosa, who had led off the frame with a double.
Jonny Gomes hit a two-run homer in the second inning as the Nationals won for the sixth time in nine games.
Tyler Clippard (2-0) earned the victory in relief of starter John Lannan, who yielded just one run on six hits over six frames.
Matt Belisle (5-4) issued the decisive hit for the Rockies, who have dropped six of their last eight games.
Carlos Gonzalez and Ty Wiggington drove in runs for Colorado.
