Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The New Orleans Saints backfield got a little less crowded this week when Chris Ivory underwent hernia surgery.
Coach Sean Payton broke the news to the team Friday that Ivory will be out of action for about three weeks.
Ivory's absence leaves Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram atop the Saints' depth chart at running back, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune said Saturday.
Ivory missed training camp as a rookie last summer due to a foot injury but went on to become a major contributor to the offense.
