DENVER, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A two-run triple by Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse's homer staked Washington to an early lead Friday and the Nationals held on to down Colorado 5-3.
Washington built a 4-0 advantage through five innings and survived a three-run Colorado sixth that featured consecutive RBI singles from Chris Nelson, Ian Stewart and Chris Iannetta.
Jordan Zimmerman (7-9) allowed two of those runs but escaped with the win in a performance that lasted 5 2/3 innings. Drew Storen recorded the final four outs for the Nationals to pick up his 28th save.
Ryan Zimmerman's triple came in the first inning, Rick Ankiel had an RBI single in the fourth and Morse hit his homer in the fifth, his 19th of the year. Morse also singled in an insurance run in the ninth.
The Rockies suffered a scare in the second when starting pitcher Juan Nicasio was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond. Nicasio fell off the mound and was eventually fitted with a neck brace and placed on a stretcher.
Nicasio was conscious while being assisted on the field and he was taken to a local hospital for observation. He gave up two runs before the incident and his record fell to 4-4.
