ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Vernon Wells singled home Torii Hunter from second with no one out in the 10th inning Friday, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 1-0 win over Seattle.
Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver, currently appealing a six-game suspension, worked nine innings, allowing seven hits and striking out eight to keep the Angels in the game.
The win, however, went to Jordan Walden (3-3), who worked the top of the 10th and then saw Los Angeles score in a hurry against Dan Cortes (0-1).
Cortes, making his fourth appearance of the season, gave up a single to Hunter to start the 10th and then threw a wild pitch that allowed Hunter to go to second. Wells followed by hitting a 2-2 pitch to left for the winning RBI.
Mariners starter Jason Vargas went six shutout innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out three.
Seattle had a three-game winning streak snapped.
