RENO, Nev., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Vaughn Taylor, whose two wins at this event have been his only victories on the PGA Tour, took the 36-hole lead Friday at the Reno-Tahoe Open.
Taylor was the tournament's winner in both 2004 and 2005 and he grabbed the top spot again by shooting a 6-under 66 that gave him a 135 total at the Montreux Golf & Country Club.
He was one shot in front of Will MacKenzie, who had a 69, and two ahead of Hunter Haas, Steve Flesh and first-round leader Nick O'Hern.
O'Hern slipped to a 72 Friday after opening with a 65.
Taylor is playing in his 21st tournament on the tour this year and he has finished no better than a tie for 25th.
Among those in a tie for sixth place at 138 was 48-year-old Steve Elkington.
The cut came at 1-over 145 and included in those missing it was John Daly, who shot 147 for 36 holes. After surprisingly recording a Top-10 finish two weeks ago at the Canadian Open, Daly has gone on to miss the cut for the 10th and 11th times this season.
