MLB: St. Louis 3, Florida 2

MIAMI, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman snapped an eighth-inning tie with an RBI double Friday that gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-2 victory over Florida.

Reliever Lance Lynn loaded the bases with two out in the ninth but struck out Mike Stanton swinging to end the game, and pick up the first save of his major league career.

Albert Pujols led off the St. Louis eighth with a double and moved to third on a groundout by Matt Holliday. That brought up Berkman, whose double to deep center brought in Pujols and lifted the Cardinals to their second straight win.

Holliday hit a solo homer in the fourth and Berkman scored later in the inning on a single by Gerald Laird. That gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead, but Florida tied it in the bottom half of the inning on John Buck's RBI single.

The win went to Mitchell Boggs (1-3), who worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Florida's Anibal Sanchez (6-5) made his 10th straight start without a victory, allowing three runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings.
