Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Tim Hudson allowed three hits over seven innings Friday and continued his recent surge in carrying the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 victory over the New York Mets.
Hudson (11-7) had a losing record in mid-June, but has won six of his last seven starts.
Atlanta, which began the night trailing NL Eastern Division-leading Philadelphia by 8 1/2 games but which owns the lead in the NL wild card chase, won its second straight.
Braves second baseman Dan Uggla extended his career-long hitting streak to 26 games with a two-run single in the eighth. It is the fourth-longest hitting streak in franchise history.
Atlanta faced an early 1-0 deficit but Jose Constanza tripled in a run in the third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Bourn.
Hudson came out in the eighth inning after throwing 99 pitches. Jonny Venters worked the eighth and Craig Kimbrel turned in a perfect ninth for his 33rd save.
R.A. Dickey (5-10) took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits in seven innings.
