Santana twice put Cleveland in front, doing so the first time with an RBI single in the third that gave the Indians a 3-2 lead.

After Josh Reddick tied it for the Red Sox with a homer in the fourth, Travis Hafner opened the sixth with a double off reliever Franklin Morales (0-2) and Santana followed with his 16th homer of the season.

Hafner expanded the lead by driving in a run with a double in the seventh and Kosuke Fukudome did the same in the ninth.

Justin Masterson (9-7) survived six innings to get the victory, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out nine.
