SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Receiver Braylon Edwards, the third player chosen in the 2005 NFL Draft, signed a one-year, free-agent deal Thursday with the San Francisco 49ers.
Edwards started 15 games with the New York Jets last season, catching 53 passes for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.
Cleveland drafted Edwards in 2005 and he was traded to the Jets in the midst of the 2009 season. He has 326 career receptions for 5,142 yards and 39 touchdowns.
The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday Edwards may have been more involved than previously thought in brawl at a Birmingham, Mich., bar Monday, in which one bouncer was stabbed with a fork and another was stabbed with a pocket knife.
Edwards was at the bar with two cousins when the brawl broke out. His cousins face charges of felonious assault but no charges had been brought against Edwards as of early Wednesday, the newspaper said.
Birmingham police initially said they had no information that Edwards took part in the brawl but the bar issued a statement saying he was "present and involved," the Free Press reported.
