
ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Ervin Santana followed up last week's no-hitter by going nine innings Tuesday to lead the Los Angeles Angels past Minnesota 5-1.
Mark Trumbo smacked a three-run homer in support of Santana (7-8), who allowed one run on eight hits and struck out seven in improving his record to 4-0 in his last seven starts.
Santana threw 121 pitches, including 78 strikes. He walked two batters.
The Angels moved to within one game of first-place Texas in the American League West.
Torii Hunter homered for the Angels against Twins starter Brian Duensing (8-9), who gave up five runs on eight hits in six innings.
Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel had two hits apiece for Minnesota. Jim Thome drove in the only run for the Twins, who have lost four of their last five games.
