
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Mark Reynolds homered and drove in five runs Tuesday, backing Alfredo Simon's effective start in the Baltimore Orioles' 8-2 win over Kansas City.
Reynolds' two-run double in the third inning erased a 1-0 deficit, putting the Orioles ahead to stay, and the third baseman added a three-run homer in the ninth as Baltimore cruised to a win in the first of a three-game set.
Chris Davis homered in the ninth and added an RBI single as the Orioles pounded out 12 hits.
Simon (3-4) limited the Royals to one run on four hits in over seven innings, issuing only one walk and striking out three.
Kansas City's Bruce Chen (5-5) lasted only 4 2/3 innings, yielding three runs on seven hits while handing out four walks.
Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer drove in the Royals' runs.
