Granollers continues hot playing streak

KITZBUHEL, Austria, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded Marcel Granollers posted a solid first-round victory Tuesday at the Bet-At-Home Cup tennis tournament in Austria.

Granollers, coming off a tournament title Sunday at the Swiss Open, opened his play in Austria with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Filippo Volandri. Granollers finished off four of his five break-point opportunities.

He lost eight points -- four in the one game he had his serve broken -- in five service games of the first set and won 70 percent of the points on serve in the match.

A pair of qualifiers moved into the second round with three-set victories. Antonio Veic got past Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2 behind seven service breaks. Joao Souza only faced two break points in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) win over Jerzy Janowicz.

Santiago Giraldo wrapped up first-round play with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Daniel Brands. Giraldo won nearly three-quarters of the points on serve and fought off all six of Brands's break-point chances.
