NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball announced Tuesday Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver and Manager Mike Scioscia have been suspended and fined.

Weaver has been booted for six games and Scioscia for one for their roles in a high-pitch incident during the Angels' game against the Detroit Tigers Sunday. MLB officials didn't say how much the pair were being fined.

Scioscia was to serve his suspension Tuesday when the Angels play Minnesota in Anaheim. Weaver will keep playing while his appeal is heard.

The punishments were meted out for an episode that began in the third inning Sunday. Weaver appeared annoyed by Magglio Ordonez's reaction to his two-run home run and argued with the next batter, Miguel Cabrera, on the way to the dugout after Cabrera popped out.

Then in the seventh inning, Carlos Guillen flipped his bat and stared at Weaver as he slowly trotted to first base after swatting a solo homer.

With his next pitch, Weaver flung a fastball over the head of Alex Avila and was ejected.

Scioscia was suspended because both teams had been issued a warning by home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt prior to Weaver's throw at Avila.
