MLB: Cleveland 9, Boston 6

BOSTON, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Asdrubal Cabrera lined a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning Monday and the Cleveland Indians went on to a 9-6 win over Boston.

With the score tied 5-5, Jason Kipnis led off the eighth with a single and Cabrera followed by smacking a ball to right field off Daniel Bard (1-5) that first appeared to bounce off the top of the wall for a double.

But an appeal by Cleveland led the umpires to conduct a video review the play. They determined the ball had entered the stands and then bounced back out -- giving Cabrera his second of the game.

Matt LaPorta added an RBI double later in the frame and the Indians took the first contest of a three-game series, pulling to within two games of idle first-place Detroit in the American League Central.

Rafael Perez (4-1) earned the victory with a scoreless seventh inning.

Jerrod Saltalamacchia belted a two-run homer and Carl Crawford added a solo shot for the first-place Red Sox.
