Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 31 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan netted a pair of second-half goals Saturday, sparking the Los Angeles Galaxy's 4-0 rout of Vancouver.
The two teams played the first 60 minutes without a tally until Donovan triggered a Galaxy onslaught when Sean Franklin's chip in behind the defense enabled Donovan to gather it in and curl the ball around netminder Joe Cannon.
Los Angeles scored again 13 minutes later when Donovan connected for his 11th goal of the season, tying him with New York's Thierry Henry for the league lead.
Franklin made it 3-0 in the 80th and substitute Adam Cristman capped the scoring 10 minutes later for the Galaxy (11-2-9), who improved to 8-0-6 in their last 14 games.
The Whitecaps fell to 2-11-9.
