Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SANDY, Utah, July 31 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven and Tom Heinemann each scored before the match was 11 minutes old Saturday and the Columbus Crew went on to a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Gaven struck for the Crew (0-6-7) 5 minutes into the game, taking a wide-open pass from Robbie Rogers across the face of the goal before converting. Columbus doubled its advantage 5 minutes later when Tommy Heinemann headed a cross from Rogers past diving RSL reminder Nick Rimando.
Goalie Andy Gruenebaum made several spectacular saves in the second half for Columbus, which took sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference with the victory.
Real Salt Lake fell to 9-4-6.
