GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 30 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Fernando Verdasco and fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers made the finals of the Swiss Open after winning hard-fought semifinal matches Saturday.
The eighth-seeded Granollers rallied to beat third-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the first match, and Verdasco outdueled top-seeded countryman and defending tournament champion Nicolas Almagro 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Granollers fell behind 0-2 in the final set but bounced back to win the final six games and beat Youzhny for the first time in three tries.
Verdasco, who lost to Almagro in the Hamburg semis last week, saved four of five break points and jumped to a 4-0 lead in the final set.
Verdasco and Granollers are both from Barcelona but have never met in a tournament before. Verdasco is winless in two tournament finals this season.
