Michael Phelps wins World butterfly gold

BEIJING, July 30 (UPI) -- Michael Phelps won his third gold medal at the World Swimming Championships with a victory in the 100-meter butterfly Saturday.

Phelps covered the course in 50.71 seconds, 0.44 seconds ahead of Konrad Czerniak of Poland.

Tyler McGill of the United States came in third.

The gold was the third in a row in world competition for Phelps, who also added a bronze and two silvers to his collections at the Beijing Worlds this week.

Phelps' final event of the meet is the 4x100-meter relay Sunday.
