WASHINGTON, July 30 (UPI) -- Yunesky Maya and three relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout Saturday and the Washington Nationals blanked the New York Mets 3-0.
The Nationals tapped Maya (1-1) as an emergency starter, recalling him from Class AAA Syracuse after dealing scheduled pitcher Jason Marquis to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The right-hander, making his first appearance for Washington since June 14, limited the Mets to five hits over 5 1/3 innings, didn't issue a walk and did not record a strikeout.
Ross Detwiler and Tyler Clippard each tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Drew Storen picked up his 26th save despite loading the bases in the ninth for the Nats, who evened their three-game series with the Mets.
Jayson Werth supplied the game's only offense with a three-run homer in the first inning.
Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (5-9) was tagged for three runs on six hits over six innings.
