TORONTO, July 27 (UPI) -- Ricky Romero took a shutout into the ninth Wednesday and struck out nine in carrying the Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-0 victory over Baltimore.
The Orioles had been trying to win back-to-back games for only the second time since mid-June.
Romero (8-9) gave up just four hits, but with one away in the ninth catcher J.P. Arencibia committed a passed ball on a swinging third strike by Vladimir Guerrero.
Guerrero reached first base safely and then went to second when Romero hit Derrek Lee with a pitch.
That brought in Jon Rauch from the bull pen and he needed just a mere pitches to retire the final two batters and end the game. It was Rauch's eighth save.
The Blue Jays scored in each of the first two innings on RBI singles by Jose Bautista and Eric Thames. Arencibia hit his 16th homer of the season in the fourth.
Alfredo Simon (2-4) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out seven.
