Reports: Hasselbeck bids Seahawks farewell

SEATTLE, July 26 (UPI) -- Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has told the team he won't be returning, multiple reports indicated Tuesday.

The Seattle Times said the 35-year-old veteran signal-caller has informed the Seahawks his playing days for them are through, 10 years after coming to the team from Green Bay.

The Times and other media outlets said the Seahawks will instead concentrate on signing former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

ESPN reported Jackson will sign the contract Friday and that the Vikings are interested in replacing him with former Philadelphia and Washington quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Hasselbeck won a starting role with the Seahawks in 2003, in which he led them to a 10-6 record and a wild card playoff berth. He was named to the Pro Bowl that season, the first of three such selections.

The former Boston College quarterback started 14 games for Seattle last year as the Seahawks won the NFC West division and posted a shocking wild card win over the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.
