Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CINCINNATI, July 26 (UPI) -- Jason Pridie delivered a go-ahead two-run double and the New York Mets scored six unearned runs Tuesday in their 8-6 win over Cincinnati.
Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with two RBI singles for the Mets, who took advantage of three Reds errors.
Murphy's first-inning hit scored Carlos Beltran for a 2-0 Mets lead in a rally that was made possible by first baseman Joey Votto's error.
Brandon Phillips' miscue in the third opened the door to another pair of unearned runs on Beltran's single and a Jason Bay sacrifice fly, giving the Mets a 4-0 advantage.
The Reds rallied to score the next five runs and grabbed a brief lead but New York struck again in the sixth when Miguel Cairo's error opened the door to Pridie's two-run double.
Jonathon Niese (10-8) got the win despite allowing five runs on six hits in a five-inning start.
The Reds' Johnny Cueto (6-4) was victimized by six unearned runs, yielding seven hits in five frames.
Votto hit a two-run homer and Edgar Renteria provided a two-run double for Cincinnati.
