CLEVELAND, July 25 (UPI) -- New York Jets free-agent receiver Braylon Edwards faces a probation violation hearing in Cleveland this week after pleading guilty to a New York charge.

A Cleveland Municipal Court spokesman said Edwards is to appear Wednesday before Judge Michelle Earley, who presided over an earlier aggravated disorderly conduct case in the city, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.

When Edwards pleaded guilty Friday to driving while intoxicated in New York, it triggered a condition of a 2009 Ohio conviction in which he was required to complete a probation period without further incident, the newspaper said.

Edwards was arrested two years ago outside a Cleveland nightclub and pleaded no-contest to disorderly conduct charges. The player paid a $1,000 fine, received a suspended 180-day jail sentence and was placed on inactive probation.

The Star-Ledger said Edwards' attorney, Peter Frankel, couldn't immediately be reached for comment, but the attorney said last week Edwards' charitable contributions in Cleveland since his arrest should be taken into account.

Agent: Favre not coming out of retirement

HATTIESBURG, Miss., July 25 (UPI) -- Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre isn't coming out of retirement to play again, despite rumors to the contrary, his agent said Monday.

After speculation the three-time MVP and 20-year veteran could be heading to the Philadelphia Eagles or other teams, agent Bus Cook told The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger in no uncertain terms Favre, 41, isn't making yet another return to the gridiron.

"Brett Favre retired in January. He has not talked to any teams, including Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks," Cook told the newspaper. "He has not talked to anyone about playing football.

"He's retired, period."

The rumors began last week when Eagles quarterback Michael Vick posted on his Twitter account that he would be "honored to have Brett Favre as a backup."

Favre retired from Green Bay in 2008, changed his mind and was traded to the New York Jets. After one year with with the Jets, he retired for a second time but once again reversed course to play with the Vikings.

He retired for a third time in January after an injury-filled second season with Minnesota, during which he tossed for 2,509 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Late NHLer's brother appears on drug rap

MINNEAPOLIS, July 25 (UPI) -- The brother of the late NHL forward Derek Boogaard appeared in a Minneapolis court Monday to face charges he supplied the drugs that helped kill Boogaard.

Aaron Boogaard, 24, of Regina, Saskatchewan, appeared in Hennepin County Court on a felony charge of third-degree sale of a controlled substance and a gross misdemeanor count of interference with a death, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

Boogaard didn't enter a plea during the hearing, in which Judge Regina Chu reminded him that a condition of his $10,000 bail forbids alcohol or drug use and requires submitting to random testing, the newspaper said.

Boogaard is also facing federal charges immigration violations, for which no court date has yet been set.

Authorities say Aaron Boogaard supplied his 28-year-old brother with non-prescribed painkillers before his May 13 death from an overdose of oxycodone and alcohol.

Derek Boogaard played five seasons with the Minnesota Wild and then one with the New York Rangers, gaining a reputation as one of the NHL's most-feared "enforcers."

MIAMI, July 25 (UPI) -- Former NBA great and current Miami Heat executive Alonzo Mourning was cited Monday for leaving the scene of an accident, a police report indicated.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said the former Heat star had been charged with a misdemeanor in connection with a July 17 accident in Miami, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Authorities said a vehicle carrying Mourning and his wife collided with another car that had been obstructing the road due to a previous crash. The report said Mourning checked on the other car's driver, 21-year-old William Candalerio of North Miami, and then left the scene without giving information.

Mourning later notified the Highway Patrol about the incident and was told to return to the crash site, Sgt. Thomas Pikul of the FHP told the Sun Sentinel.

Candalerio, who was cited for careless driving in the first crash, is suing Mourning for negligence, his attorney announced last week.

Pikul said alcohol was not involved in either of the mishaps and that neither Candalerio nor Mourning were treated for any crash-related injuries.
