CLEVELAND, July 25 (UPI) -- New York Jets free-agent receiver Braylon Edwards faces a probation violation hearing in Cleveland this week after pleading guilty to a New York charge.
A Cleveland Municipal Court spokesman said Edwards is to appear Wednesday before Judge Michelle Earley, who presided over an earlier aggravated disorderly conduct case in the city, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.
When Edwards pleaded guilty Friday to driving while intoxicated in New York, it triggered a condition of a 2009 Ohio conviction in which he was required to complete a probation period without further incident, the newspaper said.
Edwards was arrested two years ago outside a Cleveland nightclub and pleaded no-contest to disorderly conduct charges. The player paid a $1,000 fine, received a suspended 180-day jail sentence and was placed on inactive probation.
The Star-Ledger said Edwards' attorney, Peter Frankel, couldn't immediately be reached for comment, but the attorney said last week Edwards' charitable contributions in Cleveland since his arrest should be taken into account.
Edwards donated $1 million in college scholarships to 100 Cleveland students this spring.
