PITTSBURGH, July 24 (UPI) -- Chase d'Arnaud's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning Sunday lifted the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Xavier Paul stroked a one-out single to right off Jason Motte (3-2) and advanced to third when his attempt to steal second drew an errant throw from St. Louis catcher Gerald Laird.
D'Arnaud then delivered a game-winning sacrifice to center field for the Pirates, who came into the contest trailing the Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers by one game in the AL Central.
Joe Beimel (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless top of the 10th, capping 4 2/3 innings of shutout relief from the Bucs bullpen as Pittsburgh salvaged one win in a weekend set with St. Louis.
Colby Rasmus had two hits including a solo homer for the Cards.
