
NURBURG, Germany, July 24 (UPI) -- Lewis Hamilton outdueled Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber Sunday, posting his second win of year at the German Grand Prix.
McLaren's Hamilton passed pole-sitter Mark Webber heading into the first turn of the opening lap, then he and Red Bull's Webber and Alonso swapped the lead several times on the 60-lap grand prix at the 3.2-mile Nurburgring circuit.
Hamilton grabbed the lead for good when Webber pitted from the lead with four laps remaining. The McLaren driver ended 3.9 seconds ahead of defending champ Alonso for the 16th career Formula One victory.
Webber finished third, 9.8 seconds off the pace while defending world champion Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull turned in his worst performance of the season with a fourth-place finish.
Vettel leads with 216 points this season, while Webber has 139 and Hamilton moved to within five points of Webber.
