PITTSBURGH, Ohio, July 23 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Ashley Harlan were married Saturday in a suburban Pittsburgh church, witnesses said.

After posing for photographs at Christ Church at Grove Farm in Ohio Township, the pair and their guests boarded two limousine buses and later arrived via police escort at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center for their reception, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Roethlisberger, 29, and New Castle, Pa., native Harlan, 26, were assisted by best man Jaime Cooper and by Erin Telford as maid of honor.

Harlan's sister-in-law, Susan Harlan, served as matron of honor, the newspaper said.

Among the expected 650 guests at the reception were Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney and Pittsburgh Penguins co-owner Mario Lemieux.

Police tightened security in and around the downtown convention center earlier in the day, deploying bomb-sniffing dogs, the newspaper said.

Roethlisberger's wedding came 14 months after he had faced accusations of rape for the second time in as many years. The two-time Super Bowl champion, however, wasn't charged in either instance.
