KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 23 (UPI) -- Eric Hosmer's 10th-inning RBI double Saturday handed the Kansas City Royals a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Royals managed to send the game into extra frames with a clutch run in the bottom of the ninth. With Kansas City down to its last out and a runner on first base, Alex Gordon blasted a pitch from Kyle Farnsworth against the right-center field wall for an RBI double.
The Rays threatened to go ahead in the top of the 10th, loading the bases with none out. But Joakim Soria (5-3) escaped by inducing a force-out at the plate, and then striking out Sam Fuld and Elliot Johnson.
Brett Butler led off the next half-inning with a single off Brandon Gomes (0-1), and the next batter, Hosmer, sent a liner into the left-center field gap for the game-winner.
Gordon and Hosmer both went 3-for-5 and Mike Moustakas drove in three runs for the Royals, who clinched their three-game series with the Rays.
Desmond Jennings, Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria each had an RBI for Tampa Bay.
